What should I look for regarding public information on a business?

To make a long story short, I have some questions about my father’s business. I feel that he may misrepresent the volume of his business to both clients, and possibly the IRS. I would like to search public records on the internet regarding his business, but I don’t know exactly what I should be looking for.

The business is in Connecticut and I would appreciate any help getting me pointed in the right direction.
