I have gone to lots of “free public records” web sites and they all ask for a credit card #. I cant continue my search without one. Is there a site I can go to where they don’t ask for any kind of money to get a criminal record report?

the records are free, but the companies and organisations that place them online can’t do it for free because administration and data processing of any nature costs money.
you’re paying for the service, not access to records.

Because somebody went to all the trouble of organizing them, digitizing them. The records are still free, you just have to pay for the services to retreive them online.

The records are free, but you have to understand these guys are providing a service. It’s a business. The easiest way would be to go down to the police station and request the records you’re looking for (that’s how it’s done in my little beaut of a town). They usually charge you (for the paper and ink) but it’s usually not much.
