I am trying to search for homes that have sold in my area in the past 6 months. Any suggestions to finding these online?
Thank you

Yes they are free. In my state, MA, you can search through boston.com under realestate. I am not sure where you live to definitely tell you where to look.

It depends where you live and what kind of on-line services your county provides.

In my county in Arkansas, this information is not available on line to the general public, although realtors can subscribe for a fee. If you (as a private citizen) want the information, you sort of need to go to the county records section of your circuit clerk’s office and ask their help.

Trulia.com does provide some information like this, although I’m not sure how recent it is. There is another website called Zillow.com, which provides “zestimates” of your home’s value. However, their database is somewhat sketchy in many parts of the country, so their estimate of value may be wildly inaccurate.

My best suggestion is to consult with a realtor, who can do a search in the MLS for homes that have sold in the past 6 months in your area. If you are planning to sell your home, you can ask for a CMA–comparative market analysis. Just do a search for local realtor websites for your area.

I suggest that if you are planning to sell your home, you have a realtor list it. Studies from the National Association of Realtors have consistently shown that For Sale by Owners usually get less money for their homes, compared to those listed by realtors. Even if you have to pay a commission, if you end up with more money in your pocket than if you had sold it on your own, then you are ahead of the game. Plus you have the advantage of professional advice, and your home will probably sell more quickly. In many parts of the country it is a buyer’s market now with lots of homes on the market, so realtors show listed homes first.
